Compact, stylish, and remarkably portable, this powerful MiniDV camera's vertical design makes it incredibly easy to carry and operate. Incorporating JVC's exclusive Progressive Scan with Super Resolution technology, the GR-DVX90 records superb high-quality digital video with horizontal resolution of 520 lines and vertical resolution of 576 lines (in Progressive mode). Take this pocket-sized powerhouse with you wherever you go and you'll be ready to capture high-quality DV footage anytime, anywhere. And once you've captured your footage, transferring it to a computer for editing is a snap. Built-in DV and serial terminals allow easy connection to just about any computer, while the provided image processing and editing software simplifies image capture and post-production.
Progressive Scan with Super Resolution
With the GR-DVX90, you'll get pictures boasting an astonishing 520 lines of horizontal resolution by 576 lines of vertical resolution in Progressive mode (520 horizontal by 500 vertical in normal video mode). It's all made possible by an array of advanced picture-improvement technologies - including a progressive scan CCD, progressive colour filter and high-band processor - that work together to maximise the DV format's superb image quality and deliver an outstanding resolution.
Progressive scan CCD
Virtually all camcorders, analogue or digital, use a conventional interlace scan system which records only half a frame (a field) at a time. Interlace works well for full motion images, but a 1/50-second gap exists between the processing of each field. Combining two fields creates smooth full-motion images, but this time gap causes blur when the picture is paused. To create razor-sharp still images requires progressive scan technology which records an entire frame in one scan. Because there is no time gap, there is no picture blur when a frame is paused and captured as a still image. Progressive scan is ideal for selecting images during playback for printing or for transferring as stills to your computer. In addition to sharp freeze-frame stills, the progressive scan CCD provides extremely high vertical resolution when the two fields are combined into a frame-still image. This boost in quality is the result of the progressive scan CCD processed the scanning lines individually, whereas conventional CCD image sensors combine signals from adjacent scanning lines for processing of one image.
Progressive colour filter
JVC's proprietary progressive complementary colour filter generates a pure signal from each scanning line. Together with the progressive scan CCD, this technology raises vertical resolution -- a major determinant of picture quality -- to an impressive 576 lines. In addition, the complementary colour filter offers greater sensitivity compared to the RGB filter systems found in other DV cameras.
Versatile Multimedia Interfaces
The GR-DVX90 has everything you need to get your images into cyberspace. If you've got one of today's latest DV-compatible PCs, you'll be able to use the built-in DV out terminal (i.LINK: IEEE 1394 compliant) for fast, lossless DV signal transfer to your computer, or for dubbing to another DV unit in native DV format. For more conventional PCs*, a serial terminal is provided for direct connection to PC serial ports (RS-232C), enabling you to take advantage of computer-controlled still image capture and linear video editing using the provided JLIP software without installing an additional board.
10x Optical/200x Digital Zoom with Spline Interpolation
In addition to the 10x optical zoom, a 200x digital zoom with spline interpolation to smooth contours helps you to pick out a face in the crowd. A digital image stabiliser, which helps to eliminate camera shake without affecting image quality, is handy when zooming in for a portrait.
Analogue Input Terminal
The GR-DVX90's AV/S terminal even features analogue input capability to let you record virtually any video source in DV format.
2.5" High-Resolution Colour LCD Monitor
The 2.5" high-resolution LCD monitor can be freely tilted for high-angle overhead shots, low-angle shots, and even self-portraits when pointed forward. Also, easy-to-see on-screen menus are shown on the LCD to simplify selection of camera settings and special effects.
Power-Linked Operation
As soon as you pull out the viewfinder or open the LCD monitor, the camera automatically powers up so you're ready to shoot. And when you close the monitor or retract the viewfinder, the power automatically shuts to save battery power.
High-Value Software Package
The GR-DVX90 comes with a full suite of powerful software applications - JLIP Video Capture, JLIP Video Producer and Presto! Series - that make it possible to jump-start multimedia creativity from day one.
