The Coby DVD-R1280 is a recorder and player that has many useful features to exceed your expectations. DVD-R1280 provides you recording choices in DVD discs (DVD+R or DVD+RW) and on an 80GB Hard Disk Drive. The recording capacity depends on the quality you choose, for example, choose HQ (high-quality) for one hour of recording, or choose SLP (Standard Long Play) for six hours of recording.

DVD-R1280 is also a player; you can playback content from different DVD disc formats: DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. In addition to audio CDs, this recorder/player also allows you to play JPEG files as well as Kodak Pictures recorded on CD discs.

DVD-R1280 has several output terminals including component video and S-video. Connect its component video output to a progressive scan compatible television for high-quality images.

Recordable DVD Media and Hard Disk Drive
DVD-R1280 provides two recording choices. Record your favorite video content either in the hard disk (HDD) or in the DVD discs (DVD+R and DVD+RW). This DVD recorder features a 80GB HDD that can store up to 42 hours of high-quality programming.

OSD Settings
Choose one of the six OSD (On-Screen Display) settings to adjust your preferred recorder/player setting to maximize your enjoyment. These six settings are: Language, TV channel, Audio and Video, Record, Disc and System. In the very beginning, choose the OSD setup menu that is available in three languages: English, Spanish and French.

Playable DVD and CD Discs
In addition to DVD, DVD+R and DVD+RW playback, you can play DVD-R, DVD-RW, and Audio CD discs on DVD-R1280. Play JPEG files as well as Kodak Pictures recorded on CD discs.

Audio CD Playback
Enjoy audio CDs with several convenient features such as fast forward (fast backward), skip ahead or back to tracks, pause playback, and random/repeat playback. You can add CD tracks, one by one or all together, in a play list. You can also display disc information that lets you know current play, time and remain time.

Video Playback Features
Playback video content on DVD and HDD with several attractive features, such as fast forward (fast backward), skip ahead or back to chapters, still picture (pause), frame advance (step), or slow-motion playback. You can also select scenes by title/chapter number or by time. You can perform repeating scenes (repeat playback) between two specific points (A-B repeat).

TV Aspect and Speaker Setup Setting
Use the Video/Audio Setup to select the TV screen format you want: 16:9 Wide, 4:3 Letter Box and 4:3 Pan Scan. For Audio, you can select Speaker as well as SPDIF setting. Select RAW when you connect the recorder's digital output jack to Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. It's a 5.1-channel system.

Video Output
Take advantage of the Video Output that allows you to select a type according to the output format. For example, you can now connect the component video output (Pr Y Pb) of this DVD recorder to a progressive scan (P-Scan) television for stable and flicker-free images.

Recording
Recording on DVD-R1280 is very easy. You can record either from a TV or from other external equipment, such as a VCR. Take advantage of one touch recording or recording with scheduled setting. Recording time depends on the recording quality. Choose any of the recording quality modes such as HQ, SP, LP, EP and SLP.

Editing
Use the DVD-R1280 to edit a title during its playing or not. While playing, you can insert, remove, hide or show a chapter. You can also change the thumbnail for a selected title. While the title is not playing, you can choose one of four options to edit for a DVD disc title: Erase, Protect/Unprotect, for DVD+RW disc -- additionally select Make Compatible, for DVD+R disc --additionally select Close Disc.
