1080p-capable HDMI switching and other video conveniences
This receiver's HDMI connections let you switch easily between two high-definition sources, like an HDTV receiver and an HD DVD or Blu-ray player, while maintaining the highest possible picture quality for both. And thanks to analog-to-HDMI conversion, you can send all video sources to your television via a single HDMI cable — you'll never have to switch inputs on your TV again. To make the most of your older analog video sources, the '1700 converts them to 480p progressive scan. If you don't have a TV with a digital video input, the 'V1700's component video conversion can still simplify hookup and switching.

XM Radio Ready
The RX-V1700 also keeps you in touch with the latest trends in digital music listening. Just add an optional XM Mini-Tuner package and an XM subscription to enjoy instant access to more than 170 digital channels of music, news, talk, and sports. It's even compatible with XM's new HD Surround channels, which deliver music in multichannel sound.

iPod integration
Pick up the optional YDS-10 control dock to integrate your iPod into your home theater system. A single control cable connection lets you listen to your iPod's tunes through your best speakers and view its song titles, playlists, photos, and video on your TV. Switch on Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer mode and you're ready to hear your MP3 collection at its best.

Three-room/three-source capability
The 'V1700 also lets you re-assign two to four surround amplifier channels to power stereo speakers in other rooms, or even on your back porch. You can play three different audio sources in three different areas of your home at the same time, without the need for any additional amplifiers. Yamaha even includes a second remote that, when used in conjunction with an optional remote control extender system, gives you control of your system from your second or third listening rooms.

Yamaha's sophisticated auto-calibration system enables quick, easy, and remarkably accurate home theater setup. Plug in the included microphone and place it in your favorite seat. The receiver analyzes the size, volume, relative distance, and frequency response of every speaker in your home theater, adjusting the settings for each one individually. In less than three minutes, the receiver is optimized for your specific room and speakers.
