Voltage Information
Voltage Transformer:
A device which converts electrical power (110 or 220 Volt alternating current) to electrical power of a different voltage. In this device both primary and secondary windings are usually stationary, and are wound on a common magnetic core.
We only sell HIGH QUALITY and SAFE transformers fully warranted! All our transformers are true, wound magnetic transformers suitable for virtually all electrical and electronic devices.
Voltage Adapter (Converter):
An integrated circuit producing a type of voltage conversion suitable for small appliances such as razors, water heaters etc. These are for short term use of appliances and for no appliance having a motor larger than a hair dryer. Good for calculators, tape recorders, electric razors, answering machines, contact lens sterilizers, radios etc.
Electrical Plug Adapters:
The USA uses the flat pin type but you can easily get physical adapters as you need them in every country of the world for just a few dollars. We sell these for every possible use.
Telephone Adapters:
USA phones will work 100% OK anywhere on earth and you can get the physical jack adapters once you're in the country you're traveling to. There are so many types of fittings it's best to get them there rather than buy the wrong type here. Most US 110V. phones will work fine with even a 50 Watt 110-220 Volt adapter. We have a full line of these, just ask!
Voltage Regulator (Stabilizer):
Quality Regulators stabilize voltage to the precise Voltage you need, either 110 or 220 with at least 2 outlets (Euro or USA type) and Euro or USA type plugs for the wall outlet. 50 or 60 Hertz. They come with Output Meters for visual proof of the Voltage, lighted power buttons, they are fused and have carrying handles.
"With what appliances can Regulators be used with?"
Use these with appliances, computers, TVs, radios, VCrs, cash registers, alarm systems etc. These are not Transformers but work very well with our above transformers to create STABILE and SAFE Voltage protected against Surges and Spikes. All electrical and electronic products can be used with our regulators., and should be if you feel the local voltage can be unstabile.
"Do American bought surge protectors help at all overseas, and can they be plugged into transformers to operate multiple devices as long as we do not exceed the maximum wattage?"
They should do a job but better is to get a Voltage Regulator as in Sicily the power is sometimes variable. Once you have a regulator you'll gets STABILE and safe 220Volts and surge/spike protectors won't be needed.
"How do you determine the size of transformer you'll need?"
Add up the total Watts (or multiply Amps x Voltage to get Watts) needed to be plugged into any single transformer and add 25% extra for heat build-up in the transformer. If you intend on plugging in 750 Watts total you'll need a 1000 Watt transformer. If you plug in nearly 1000 Watts to a 1000 Watt transformer it could melt down in time and even damage your appliance if it fails.
Our Experience:
John, Owner of Quantum Star, writes,
"I have been using transformers for 110 and 220 V appliances around the world for 30 years and have been selling them for years here in the states. I have never yet had a single bad experience with appliances of any kind, big or small nor has anyone ever reported to me, in 30 years, that their items have been damaged by 50-60 Hertz differences once the Voltage was changed. I have heard that Hertz can damage some types of heavy appliances with certain types of motors and yet I have never once heard of this actually happening. I have dozens of American friends living in Italy using all their big appliances, I even have a GE GIANT dryer there myself, using a transformer, now since 1969. No problems. However, the risk is yours, I can only show you my experience. 99% of all electronics and appliances have their own power suppliers built in that instantly change all A/C power to D/C and in D/C there are no Hertz at all."
